NORFOLK, Va. | The Norfolk State University football program concluded its first week of spring practice on Saturday as head coach Dawson Odums continues to see the improvement of his young squad.
“Today (Saturday) was the first day we were in full gear and got a chance to see how much better we’ve gotten from January to now,” Odums said. “We are better with our execution, better with our communication and in all three phases. If we can continue do that that, we will continue to get throughout this spring football season.”
Norfolk State ushered in spring practices with four practices over the week as the Spartans prepare for the annual spring scrimmage on Saturday, April 8 at William “Dick” Price Stadium. That same day, the NSU football program will be hosting a ton of recruits for junior day.
“I think it is a great showcase day,” Odums said. “It gives us an opportunity to see where we are at and give our staff an opportunity to evaluate our players. Then, the day also gives a chance to see the 2024 class and to see what those players look like and their interest in Norfolk State.”
Norfolk State has approximately 90 players in spring camp and are preparing for the 2023 season opener on September 2 in the Labor Day Classic against Virginia State. The following week, the Spartans visit rival Hampton on September 9.
